What is filial piety?

filial piety: (noun) in Confucian thought, one of the virtues to be cultivated, a love and respect for one's parents and ancestors

What does this concept mean to you, in your life?
This concept means a lot to me because I believe that I should respect those who are older than I am. I think that respect to elders is important because they have lived longer and have done more, which makes them at a higher "level" than I am. In my life, I practice it daily and believe that everyone should respect their elders.

I think your explaination is good and I think you should respect the elders too. But why does living longer make a person in a higher level?

hey Rei (:
I agree with you on the perspective of how we should practice filial piety. Older people are wiser, and more knowledgeable, so we should honor their wisdom and treat them with respect.

Heirachy! Yea, older people and elderly are higher in the ranking of the people and we should respect them as much as possible. Agree with your opinions!
